Community Ministries at Holy Cross seek to participate in God’s mission through various ministries of service. Opportunities are provided for involvement and hands-on service in local and far-reaching community activities. Double Days
On Double Days the Community Ministries team hosts two service projects at the same time; one inside the church and one outside the church. Double Days happen about six times a year. You can help by becoming a Double Days coordinator, a one-time commitment helping to coordinate a Double Days event. Contact Dianne Ready, 913-492-7149.
Therapy Pets Ministry
This ministry goes monthly to a local nursing home with their pets to interact with the residents. Contact Andrea Salsbury , 816-695-1902 or Steve and Jan Roeder, 913-544-1315..
Crafts Ministry
This team goes to Temporary Lodging for Children (TLC) tomake crafts with the teenage residents. Contact Gail Donovan, 913-341-6750; or Kathie Wayne, 913-498-2813.
Harvesters Ministry
This ministry supports Harvesters (a metro-wide food bank) by sorting food every other month. Contact Kim Shanmugam at 913-402-8826 or Melinda Cook at 913-681-5391.
Elderly Ministry
This ministry at Trinity Manor Nursing Home gives individuals the opportunity to spend time with the residents in various activities. Contact Barb Laubhan at 913-383-3319 or Teena Shouse at 913-402-1034.

These studies are ongoing throughout the year. Participants are needed to assist at the following locations:

Metro Lutheran Ministry (MLM)
Throughout its 34-year history, MLM has been known as one of Kansas City's pioneering social service agencies, sponsoring new and innovative housing and emergency assistance programs, which became successful, separate non-profits. Blessings Abound Thrift Store

MLM Christmas Stores
Holy Cross Lutheran Church provides gifts for needy families who many times would not have anything at Christmas. Opportunities available to take applications, set up, and walk families through the store. Contact Barb & Dan Koontz, 913-491-4643; or Becky Montanino, 913-829-5533.
Soup Kitchen/Meals Ministry
This ministry provides meals for Children's Memorial Soup Kitchen, SafeHome and TLC on a regular basis. A request for meal items (main dish, dessert, etc.) is sent out via email and those who are able respond and bring their item to Holy Cross. Coordinators deliver the meal to the organizations. Clothing Closet Ministry
Once a month, members carpool to Grand Avenue United Methodist Temple in downtown KC, MO and help the homeless with their clothing needs. Contact Dianne Ready, 913-492-7149; or Alan Braybrooks, 913-402-0359.
Food Focus of the Month
Each month the congregation is notified of a designated food or item to be collected and distributed to a local pantry or shelter. Contact Alice Petersen at 913-491-3799 for more information.
HopeBUILDERS Home Repair
This is a collaborative housing repair group made up of area churches that assists Kansas City area needy and elderly homeowners with their home repair or disability adaptation needs. HopeBUILDERS needs help of various skill levels and also provides learning opportunities.
